Oxford CMI-233/243 Portable Coating and Plating Thickness Gauge
About Us
The CMI-233 and CMI-243 are portable handheld highly featured coating or plating
thickness gauges using either Eddy Current or Magnetic Induction technology.  They
provide cost effective, fast and high performance solutions for measurement of
coating thickness.

The CMI-233 packages enable control of both plating and paint & powder coating
processes using advanced magnetic induction and eddy-current technology.  It
provides non-destructive coating thickness measurement for non-magnetic coatings
over magnetic (ferrous) substrates and non-conductive coatings over conductive
substrates (primarily Al, Cu as close to 100% IACS conductivity is required).  The
system was specially designed to handle the needs of platers, coaters, and quality
professionals.

Three versions of the CMI-233 are available:

  • CMI233E: ECP eddy current probe
  • CMI233M: SMP-2 magnetic induction probe
  • CMI233Dual: ECP eddy current and SMP-2 magnetic induction probes

Applications for the CMI-233:
With Eddy Current versions - measure non-conductive coatings over nonmagnetic
conductive substrates, and conductive coatings on non-conductive substrates
  • Non-conductors on conductors
  • Paint & Powder Coats on Aluminum
  • Anodize on Aluminum
With Magnetic Induction Versions - measure non-magnetic coatings over magnetic
(ferrous) substrates
  • Non-magnetic metals (Zn, Cd) on ferrous substrates
  • Paint & Powder Coatings on Steel

The CMI-243 package used advanced eddy-current technology. The ECP-m probe is
specifically tailored for metallic coatings on metallic substrates such as Zn on Steel.

Applications for the CMI-243:
With Eddy Current - measure metallic coatings on ferrous substrates, non-conductive
coatings over nonmagnetic substrates and conductive coatings on non-conductive
substrates
  • Zn, Cd, Cr, Ni, Cu on Steel
  • Organic, Paint & Powder Coatings on Aluminum
  • Anodize on Aluminum
