The MINILAB is used by academic and industrial researchers for polymer formulation, hot melt extrusion, bio-polymer and pharmaceutical development, nano-composite compounding and more.
The MINICTW was developed to address the needs of customers needing a lower cost system with fewer features. The MINICTW differs from it old brother MINILAB by the lack of the following features:
max temperature of 300°C versus 350 or 420°C on MINILAB
non-hinged and un-heated upper barrel halve
no pressure transducers
smaller recirculation channel to reduce the total volume
manual recirculation valve versus automatic on MINILAB
no optional ports may be added for NIR
requires control via PC versus pushbutton panel on MINILAB

The Thermo Scientific MINILAB micro compounder was specially developed for the compounding of small volume (7 cc) samples. This miniaturized extruder is perfect for research in material science, testing of expensive additives and the development of new formulations.
The system is based on a conical twin-screw compounder with an integrated recirculation channel. Due to the recirculation channel and the integrated bypass valve, which enables the recirculation of the melt, the residence times are well defined. Two pressure transducers that are integrated in the recirculation channel allow the simultaneous measurement of the (relative) viscosity of the melt up to 350°C (optionally 420°C).
The MINILAB can be used with co-rotating or counter-rotating screws and is equipped with an inert gas flush system for the feeding area and the barrel.
